The history of Järnavik Hostel

(The yellow house)

During the Danish epoch Järnavik was a well known
harbour. The port has worked as a place for farmers since the Middle Ages. During the 17th century Järnavik was one of the main harbours in Blekinge.

In the year of 1849 Engelbrekt Kock and Magnus Magni bought the whole property of Järnavik. Two years later the main building of today, called "Gula Huset", was settled.

The property was taken over by Giovanni Theodor Sjölin 1880 and gave it the look it has today. In year 1885 the upper floor was made higher and provided with a glaze stove in this time's style.

In year 1901 Julia Eriksson, alias "Julia på Dahla", bought the property,  a few years later she sold it all to Hugo Jeppson, who was the last owner who lived at the property.

In year 1950, the son of Hugo Jeppson, Gösta Jeppson became the new owner. He never lived there, the house was uninhabited until Gösta Jeppson 1970 sold "Gula Huset" to the city of  Ronneby .

The Swedish navy  rented the house from the city of Ronneby and used it as a store. At this time the house got it's nickname "Gula Huset".

Gula huset nowadays

After some years of decay,  the building is today carefully renovated and now it's a hostel with ten rooms and thirty beds. There is also a café in the garden and a new house built in an old style where you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee with homemade bread.

Courses, conferences, exhibitions and private arrangements can be offered.

Monika Kronlund owns and runs "Gula Huset" today.
